Travel Tips from Ronni Hawk

Hey guys!

For a lot of people, this holiday season (like all holiday seasons) is sure to be filled with traveling. I absolutely love to travel but it can get a little stressful.

That’s why I thought I’d share just a few of my favorite travel tips that I’ve picked up over the years. They’ve worked for me…maybe they’ll work for you too!

Depending on where you’re going and how long you’re staying somewhere, you might run into the issue of packing. What should you bring? How much should you bring? I don’t know about you but I like to have a lot of different options. A well-known trick to storing as much as you can into your luggage is to ROLL your clothes.  I know it sounds funny but it really works. And it will free up space for your handbags, shoes and your favorite hoodie.

Another idea is to place the clothes inside of a zip-lock bag and push the air out. This will give your bags a lot of extra space. These zip-lock bags are also helpful for separating your items and keeping them organized. Gadgets, clothes, shoes – pretty much anything can go into a zip lock bag.  And I know you want to be earth friendly, so reuse these bags each time you travel!

Also, go ahead and put your lotions and shampoos in zip-lock bags as well. I remember flying to visit my family in Florida after a long shoot for On My Block and discovering my luggage to be an absolute mess when I landed! If you place liquids into the zip-lock bags, you won’t have to worry about them spilling out and ruining that favorite hoodie I mentioned earlier.

Another tip for traveling well is to plan for the worst-case scenario. I’m not trying to be Debbie Downer but it’s always best to prepare for things going wrong.

If you’re flying overseas – make a copy of your important documents, like your passport, tickets, etc. and store them separately from the originals. Write down contact information for your friends/family because, if you lose your phone (which is sooooo easy to do), chances are, you won’t be able to remember those phone numbers. How many numbers do you have memorized? If you say – your entire contact list, you’re my hero.

Also, make sure to tell your family about your plans and your itinerary beforehand, so they know when you are supposed to arrive at your various destinations. This will make your parents so happy.

Finally, I’ve found it helpful (and fun) to sit down and plan out the trip. Write down all the things you’d like to do, the people you’d like to see and then put it on the calendar. You can still have spontaneous adventures, which are some of the best trips…but having a general idea of things that you’d like to do will give you a roadmap.

Anyway, that’s what’s on my mind as we head into a busy travel season. And I want to know your best travel tip! So please share.  Remember guys: stay safe, have fun and be well!

Peace out,
