3 Surprising Ways You Can Save Water Today

Hey guys, it’s Ronni!

It turns out that January 10 is National Cut Your Energy Costs Day. Now, I don’t know much about energy, but I thought I’d use this opportunity to talk about conserving another invaluable resource – water.

I’m sure you’ve heard about common ways to save water, like taking shorter showers, not running the tap when you brush your teeth, using water-efficient appliances, and using timers for your lawn sprinklers. But I’d like share a few other under the radar ways that can help conserve water. Check them out:

#1. Use a Car Wash
Did you know that washing your car at home can use an average of 100 gallons of water? You read that right - 100 gallons! In addition to water waste, a lot of the soaps people use at home are toxic to the environment.

By using a local carwash instead, not only will you be saving yourself the time and hassle, but you will also be helping conserve water and preventing hazardous chemicals from leaking into the ocean.

#2. Eat Less Meat

Another crazy fact that few people know is that it takes more than 1,000 gallons of water to produce just one steak! Yes, raising billions of animals for meat consumes an incredible amount of water. In fact, according to PETA, nearly half of all the water used in the United States goes toward raising animals for food.

So, one of the most effective ways to reduce your water footprint, is to cut down on the amount of meat you consume.

#3. Reuse Your Drinking Glass

Every time you pour yourself a glass of water at home but don’t finish it, don’t just pour the unused water down the drain and put your glass into the dishwasher. Instead, leave it on the counter, and finish it later. And if you still have any half-full glasses of water around your house at the end of the day, you can use that water for your houseplants and pets. By reusing your drinking glass throughout the day, not only will you use less drinking water, but you also won’t have to run your dishwasher as often, thus cutting down on your energy costs too!

Clean drinking water is one of the biggest environmental concerns out there, so it’s important to continue raising awareness about conserving this precious resource.

I recently blogged about my involvement with The Thirst Project. It’s an amazing organization that works hard to bring fresh, lifesaving water to people in places that really need it around the world. Feel free to check it out when you get a chance.

With that said, what are some of the ways you conserve water? Share them in the comments below! Together, we can protect and save our earth! 🌎
