Why Volunteering is Awesome

Hey there, it’s Ronni Hawk!

In this fast-paced world, we get so busy with our own lives that we often forget to stop and think how other people are doing. But the reality is – many here in the United States and around the world face major hardships on a daily basis. And I really wanted to do more to help.

This is why I become interested in volunteering. Volunteering allows all of us to reach out and touch someone’s life.  It’s a chance to make a direct, positive impact on the world, and that’s something that I increasingly value.

As a long-time volunteer and advocate for The Thirst Project, I have been given the opportunity to shed some light on an organization that does very important work by helping bring clean water to millions of people across the globe. I’ve been active with them for years (even before I starred in Stuck in the Middle), and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to get involved with a worthwhile charity.

My experience with The Thirst Project was eye-opening and really gave me a new perspective on my own life.  Whenever I feel like I’m going through a rough time, I just think about the problems that millions of others face every day, and it immediately makes my problems seem insignificant.

It’s hard to feel sorry for yourself when you know how precious simple things like clean water are to so many people.  We all tend to take these things for granted, but volunteering brings the feelings of gratitude and compassion to our lives.

It’s very humbling to volunteer and work with projects that do so much good for others.  It’s a feeling that I treasure most of all.

There’s no way to really fully get this until you have the opportunity to volunteer for someone else.  Once you see the happiness that simple acts of kindness can bring to others, you get a sense of that joy in your own life, as you helped make it happen.

Anyways - these are my thoughts for today. Again, I highly encourage you to get involved with The Thirst Project or pick an issue that you’re passionate about and find a way to get involved.

You will see just how awesome and rewarding it is to volunteer, and I for one, am so thrilled about being able to make my small contribution.

Catch you later!
